A New Orleans Experience Rooted in Literacy, Culture & Community

Located inside the iconic Melba's on Elysian Fields Avenue, the Eat & Read Literacy Project is a one-of-a-kind New Orleans literacy initiative transforming a beloved neighborhood gathering place into a hub for education, culture, and connection. While guests enjoy the flavors of classic Creole cuisine—like authentic po'boys, gumbo, and Southern comfort food—they're also invited to engage with books, attend author encounters, and access free literacy resources. Recognized nationally for its impact, Eat & Read bridges food, culture, and education to empower the New Orleans community through literacy and lifelong learning.
